Rodarte

It follows that indie designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte would have indie fans the likes of Kirsten Dunst, Jason Schwartzman, Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon and Elijah Wood in the audience. When we saw Wood, he was being interviewed by 13-year-old fashion blog sensation, Tavi, who hails from a Chicago suburb and happens to be Rodarte's muse for the S/S season.

The show's dramatic start: fog flowed over a black-sand covered runway, obscuring front-row spectators' legs. The opening look: a plaid cheesecloth-draped dress (yes, the designers called it cheesecloth) with Swarovski crystals. Rodarte-signature macrame and crochet-draped knit dresses had hanging velvet. When look 11 emerged, it featured this season's new Rodarte signature: leather braids and cutouts. Our favorite was look 23, a black and red woven leather dress.

Nicholas Kirkwood did tough chic, leather cut out shoes with metal spikes. P.S. The bird claw silver belts were hot!

See Debbi's Backstage Beauty posts for close-ups of the tattoos and dark make-up by MAC and Tara's Rodarte after party post to get the scoop on how Kate and Laura celebrated after the show.
