Jason Wu

Elegant gilded walls and a mirrored runway created a rarefied ambiance for Jason Wu's spring 2010 show at the landmark St. Regis Hotel at 55th Street and 5th Avenue. Actresses Kerry Washington and Amanda Peet chatted in the front row across the runway from a row packed with Vogue editors. The air was electric as we all anxiously waited to see what was in store from Jason.

The first look was a peach silk tweed pant suit. It was a good idea for Jason to lead with sportswear since he's been in the spotlight for his dresses. The collection had soft, feminine elements such as peplums, diminutive ruffles, couture-level draping. What I loved most was how these clothes gently moved as the models walked.

Jason designs all of his prints himself and they are always rooted in unusual inspiration. This season, there was a black and white Rorschach print and an intriguing floral X-ray print. I must see this one up close immediately!

Jason really turned up the heat with the cocktail dresses and gowns--each one a stunning example of his incredible talent. Exquisite fabrics included a beetle point d'esprit tulle, ostrich feathers and sturdy faille, which he sculpted into the perfect tulip shapes. Well done, Jason!
