Knee Sock Loving

Happy Friday!

    I hope you are all enjoying the wonderful October weather! In the fall, we all know it's important to layer because of varying temperatures in the morning, day, and night. One trend that I am loving this season is over-the-knee or knee socks. Last year, the boot sock and leg warmers became increasingly popular, and this year I am seeing them even more. However, it's possible to pull off this look without wearing boots too! Take a look..

    Because they cover the majority of your legs,  feel free to wear them with a skirt or shorts and then throw on an extra layer on top!

For cooler temperatures, layer them up with some tights!

 

    I love the sophisticated-chic, schoolgirl appeal they have to them! Be a trendsetter this fall by sporting the unique look.

Dance the Night Away

    This past weekend I went to Homecoming and it was a blast! I had so much fun picking out my dress and accessories, taking pictures, going to dinner, and dancing. After trying on tons of adorable dresses in BP, I ended up picking this coral ruched tank dress that I saw onset the Homecoming shoot in June. 

    I completed the look by layering the Carole Floral Rhinestone Necklace and a long gold necklace (both from BP). 

 

    My sister also wore a dress from BP! She looked great in her one-shoulder ruched black dress. What's an outfit without the shoes though, right? We both loved our pumps! She wore bright purple ones to add a pop of color to her black dress and I wore nude ones.

 

I loved all of my friend's dresses as well! Body-con was a constant theme..

Fabulous Fur

Happy Friday Fashionistas!

    I have another great trend for the fall! Faux fur is a great addition to any outfit whether it be for that extra oomph or simply to keep you warm. Faux fur vests are my favorite, and BP just got this adorable one in!

 

    Fur vests can easily be dressed down as shown above. I love how they look when people layer them and how they can transform any outfit!

 

    Since it is a relatively neutral piece, there are so many ways to wear it. I've seen faux fur look really classy and preppy and then I've seen it made look more hipster. Wear it to fit your own unique personality!

 

I personally like it worn with black and white for a classic look. How would you wear faux fur?

Dress Up Your Shirt

    Shirt dress fashions have come and gone in the past years. Now is your time to try this trend out! I have been seeing more and more of them lately, and I am eager to try one out myself. 

 

    I believe that there are two acceptable ways to wear a shirtdress. The first way is to belt it, and the next is to layer! This is so that you aren't left looking too sloppy. Yes, the shirtdress is a typically casual look, but you still want to look put-together.

 

Belt it: Cinching the waist of a shirtdress with a belt is the perfect way to wear one. Make it fun by adding a printed or brightly-colored belt. 

 

Layer it: This can have many different meanings. You could wear your shirtdress open with a bandage dress underneath. You could add leggings if your shirtdress is too short. You could add a jacket or a scarf, and not to mention countless accessories! There are so many different ways to wear this one simple piece.

 

The nicer shirtdress:

 

    Silkier and preppier? Yes, please! With this new style, you don't really need to add a belt or layer unless it is too big. Take a look at these adorable ones from BP..

The How To: Scarves

    As BP's Facebook page put it a couple days ago, it's time to stock up on scarves! Fall has finally begun, and scarves give us that extra warmth as the days continue to get cooler..

 

    Scarves can serve a variety of purposes. First and foremost, obviously, scarves keep people warm! My favorite kind of scarf for this purpose is a chunky knit or wool one. Once you have one of these on, all you need is a big cup of hot chocolate and you're good to go!

 

    Next, scarves can also serve the purpose of spicing up an outfit. I love wearing them to add a pop of color to a mostly neutral outfit. Bright colors and crazy patterns like cheetah print are a great way to make any look more interesting and fun! 

    By adding different colors, textures, and patterns to an outfit, you add more dimension and therefore make your overall look more appealing. Scarves are such a great way to do this!

 

    Just like there are multiple purposes of scarves, there are also many different ways to wear scarves! Be creative and let your hands guide you to tying your scarf in new ways. My most current favorite way to wear my scarves is tied in a bow. My manager from BP actually wore her scarf to one of our Fashion Board meetings like this and inspired me to do it myself! If you want a more put-together look than just wrapping a scarf around your neck multiple times, try tying your's in a bow!

Senior Pictures

    I recently got my senior pictures done since I am finally a Senior in high school! I had a girl I know take them instead of a studio so I was able to pick the kind of background I wanted as well as how many outfits I would have. I wanted to wear something simple and classy so that I wouldn't look back in 50 years and be mortified at what I was wearing. 

    For my first outfit choice, I wanted to do a nicer outfit that was simply feminine.  I opted for BP's ivory fire lace dress and matching ivory statement necklace. I further accessorized with simple gold hoop earrings and strappy gold wedges.

 

    For my next outfit, I knew I wanted to go a little more casual. I decided to wear my new periwinkle skinnies with a flowy white lace blouse. I had recently received a new pair of TOMS 'Tierra' wedges from BP that complemented this outfit perfectly so I wore those as well (to learn more about the journey of these TOMS during my summer, read my blog posts next week)!

 

    For my last change, I knew that we were going to a barn so I decided to wear a country-inspired outfit. A chambray shirt, white shorts, and tall brown boots seemed just right! This ended up being my favorite outfit of all as my shirt and boots matched the fence I was leaning against..

 

I also loved all the pretty flowers that were blooming..

 

    If you're getting your senior pictures taken, or any professional pictures for that matter, go with outfits that are simple and timeless but that also show your personality! 

 

    Overall, I was extremely happy with the way my pictures turned out! I love the natural backgrounds and how I felt natural as well. The pictures don't look too posed and they captured my personality perfectly! Thanks to Hannah, the photographer, for all of the amazing pictures!

Pretty Plaid

  

 

  One of my favorite trends for fall has always been plaid. This print has been around forever in many shapes and forms. Take a look at some celebrities who have tried this trend over the years...

 

    One reason that I love plaid so much is that it's so versatile! There are so many different ways to wear it.

    Most people associate plaid with flannels for a casual or country kind of look. They are great for country concerts, but also just to throw on when hanging out. Borrow an older brother or boyfriend's oversized flannel for an extra comfy yet fashionable look!

 

    As I said before, plaid can be worn in many different ways though. A lot of people have made plaid look edgy. Add a leather jacket or some boots for the perfect combination of chic and punk. 

 

    Plaid can also be made to look pretty and polished. Preppy plaid is becoming increasingly popular. For this look, the right accessories are key.

 

    Two styling tips I have for wearing plaid this fall are to layer and to wear your plaid top unbuttoned with a different shirt underneath!

Haute Homecoming

Hello Fashionistas!

    I am so excited to finally share with you more of everything that I experienced back in June onset the Homecoming photo shoot (check out my experience below)!

 

    When you look for a dress for a dance, you want more than just a dress that you will wear one time. That's why I love the dresses that Nordstrom has created because each one has meaning; they each tell a story. The three main stories that characterize these gorgeous dresses are Flapper Glam, Hollywood Chic, and Rocker Remix.

Flapper Glam:

    Most of you have probably studied the 1920s countless times or read the Great Gatsby in school. Well let's bring back the 20s this fall for Homecoming! I'm talking tons of sequins and big accessories. Try wearing a headband across your forehead. Then throw in some feathers or fringe and a strand of pearls and you're set! These dresses have such a unique vintage feel. Here's some inspiration...

 

Remember the dress I got to try on? This was my favorite Flapper Glam one!

    Want to step it up and be a trendsetter at your Homecoming? If so, then Flapper Glam is definitely the way to go. Remember to wear your dress with confidence because the flappers were the most confident women and trensetters of their time. In one of these dresses, you could be your school's own Golden Girl!

 

Hollywood Chic:

    From form-fitting styles to your favorite colors, these are the dresses that you know and love. You'll feel like a star walking the red carpet as you step into your Homecoming in one of these stunner designs.

 

    I could definitely see myself wearing any of the Hollywood Chic dresses that I saw on set to my own Homecoming. They're classic, bold, and fabulous!

 

Rocker Remix:

    This storyline pretty much speaks for itself. Give your Homecoming look a little bit of edge this fall! From a fascinator to leather jackets and gloves to a patterned blazer, the models at the shoot were styled so well for this category. Take a look...

    One thing I noticed at the shoot was that a lot of the dresses were styled by adding high dress socks with either heels or oxford-styled shoes. I love this unique twist on a dance look! Will you be daring enough to try it out?

Cuff Couture

 

    This summer, I have seen so many different kinds of cuffs. Not just the ones you wear on your wrist either... I've actually seen a bunch of ear cuffs! This was the best invention for me because I am only allowed to have my ears single pierced. I love how they aren't permanent like a piercing; you can slip them on and off whenever you want to.

    Plus it's fun to have another kind of accessory for our ears! Just like an earring, you can go from simple to more extravagant. There are different shapes, colors, and styles!

 

    

 

I still love the wrist cuffs though! They never fail to make a bold statement...

 

    Try wearing a cuff on both wrists! The stylist at the Homecoming shoot gave me a big gold cuff for one wrist and a big silver one for the other when I wore the Flapper Glam glitter dress. I think it's best to keep the cuffs simple--silver or gold--if you are going to double them.

    Worried about long sleeves in the fall? No need to! Cuffs look just as chic secured up on your sleeves.

Back to School Trend: Feminine Edge

Hello Fashionistas!

 

    My back to school trend to show all of you is Feminine Edge! Back to school clothes can actually make going back to school bearable. I know I am eager to sport the romantic and girly florals, pastels, lace, and embellishments that this trend is all about!

 

Outfit One: Casual & Cute

 

I would totally wear this outfit on my first day back to school if I didn't have to wear a uniform! Its core pieces include a Robin K floral button back tank, Frenchi collarless blazer, Articles of Society skinny jeans, and a Stephen & Co statement necklace. 

 

    The flowiness of this floral tank paired with the structure of a blazer and denim make it the perfect outfit to transition from summer to fall. Not only is the outfit appropriate for school, you'll also look fabulous when hitting the books. 

 

    When I put these clothes on, I was instantly in a better mood. They are comfortable and made me feel great! It's important to keep up the confident and carefree attitude of summer when school starts to help beat all the stress and nerves that accompany that time of year.

Outfit Two: Sassy & Studious

    The main pieces of this outfit are Lush lace shorts, a Paper Crane beaded tank, and Triple Accessories Pink Clutch. The detailing of each is incredible!

    I added my black blazer, cowboy boots, and glasses to further make the look flirty yet intellectual and serious.

 

 

    Western boots are going to be very popular in the fall; I love how they give this outfit a unique edge. Plus, you haven't even seen the best part of the clutch yet...
