It's almost that time of year again to apply for your local Nordstrom's BP Fashion Board! If you absolutely love fashion, or are even just interested in it, you should definitely apply! From talking about current trends and the history of Nordstrom to putting looks together from the floor and designing our own fashion lines, Fashion Board is tons of fun! Don't worry you don't have to be a fashion expert or an amazing designer to be on the board; you just have to have passions and be interested in learning more about fashion.
Although the applications aren't up yet, just a little pre-warning that you will have to create a project to be on the board. There are tons of different options for this. Just remember to be creative and make it unique! For my project last year, I decided to do a scrapbook of my favorite spring trends...
Maybe a scrapbook is your thing too! Cut out outfits from magazines, find colors and patterns that appeal to you, and maybe even add your own sketches! Or you could do an inspiration board...
You could also create your own little fake fashion line. We're currently doing this right now and it's a lot of fun! First, find inspiration from magazines or websites to figure out what kind of look your line will be. My friend Olivia created a line of dress accessories to make a dress look different every time you wore it. That way you don't have to buy a different dress for every dance! I decided to do a beachy, bohemian line filled with flowy, light clothes to throw on over a bathing suit at the beach. Here's my inspiration:
Next, draw your own sketches. I mixed earthy neutral tones with bright colors and incorporated a lot of crochet and lace. Here are some of mine so far including a crochet overlay dress with different colored banded dresses that you can wear underneath it as well as a fringe bikini.
And finally, come up with a name. I decided to name mine Free to Be after a campaign against sex trafficking at my school and said that I would donate a portion of the proceeds of my line to the cause.
Other ideas include taking pictures of yourself in your favorite outfit, designing and sewing your own piece, and many more! Stay tuned for applications being up on the blog soon!
